About this deal
Whether you're hiking, canoeing or biking, a Bushbox from Bushcraft Essentials makes every adventure unique.
Living in a National Park (Vercors) with certain fire restrictions, the ability it gives to contain a small fire is something i appreciate. As always when you burn wood it will generate smoke and ash, and depending on your choice of firewood, how much is generated will vary. As some others have said painting it black would help improve aesthetic look after a few uses but that doesnt really bother me much. The tent peg option is clever also as a backup option, should you lose a grate and need to improvise as most of us have pegs easily accessible. It's really the kind of weight that is going to be for car/horse/sled/flat biking or purposeful light-eating hikes use.
I already own the original (smaller) bushbox, but found it a bit fiddly to assemble and deassemble it every time. Alternatively, you can use many different other fuels like spirit burners (Trangia), Esbit, wood pellets, charcoal etc. The Bushbox XL comes with two trivets which can be used as support for different pot sizes, as a bracket for a Trangia burner or to handle the hot stove safely. Assembling and disassembling the box is incredibly easy as you only really need to pull it apart and shake it to assemble it.Inserted into a special half-height position it can be used as a stand for alcohol burners like the Trangia. So before we’d even got our hands on the Bushbox, we’d done a deep dive into whether it could tick all the boxes we were looking for.
