It was a bit of a slow romance and it took me a bit to figure out what was going on and get into it. Someone went to a lot of trouble to make it look like they attacked each other with scalpels, but it's bull. I liked the push and pull Xander’s character struggled with, and the constant fight Kyra’s character struggled with just to live. There is the normal actin and suspence, and it's a brilliant plot with a lot of real Egyptian history involved, but this story did focus a lot more on the romance.When she’s commanded to summon a Daemon, a Breed notorious for their corruption and brutality, she’s torn between keeping her secret and doing the right thing. Xander is a Guardian trying to keep the world save from daemons and other things that go bump in the night. The world building was well done enough that I thought the book would be more so a world driven plot (events happening in the world) rather than the character driven plot it was. There were a few times where I had to reread bits and still didn't end up understanding wtf was going on. There was a lot more sexual content in this book than in Frost's others - or more than I remember there being.

In the second spin-off from the bestselling Night Huntress series, Frost produces a tale that is wildly romantic as well as action-packed. Deliveries to destinations outside Australia are made by DHL courier, and cannot be made to post office boxes. I think a lot of people might like it because it checks alot of boxes that people like, such as paranormal romance, fae and demons, different realms, fantasy, but I just didn’t feel connected to the story. Every single character has a unique personality and I look forward to seeing them all shine in the following books in this series.
