Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. He made regular appearances on television, and a string of solo singles made him the most famous guitarist in the country; he was perfectly placed to take advantage of the birth of rock'n'roll. Kids of today may be different of course, but back in 1963, 9 year olds wanted to learn Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Duane Eddy and Hank Marvin riffs, not dreck like Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes and Cockles And Mussels. Don't think this is it: you're now a guitarist fit to battle Edward van Halen, Jeff Loomis, and countless others who are true exponents. The book covers every aspect of jazz, rock and pop arranging, from a basic lead sheet to scoring for full ensemble with voices.

In 1950 guitars were rare in the UK and sales barely touched 5,000, but Elvis, Cliff and British rock ’n’ roll changed all that. Although I'm an amateur beginner on acoustic guitar, I'm a trained musician and a lot of the DVD content covers things I already know. Bert Weedon's 'Play in a Day' a promise to bring good music back | Back in the day, Bert Weedon taught a whole generation of renowned musicians how to play music.

After just the 25 minutes video tuition a complete beginner with any six string guitar will be able to join in with Bert Weedon and his group and play their first tune. I was given a couple of Bert Weedon Guitar Guides, which I gave to my Dad, they’re probably in the loft…. Next up, the thumb overs: all 3 guitarists in the Quintet du Hot Club de France (including Django who of course employed a highly unorthodox LH technique as a result of his horrific accident), Charlie Christian, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Freddie King, Duane Eddy, John Lee Hooker, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Pete Townshend, Stanley Clarke (thumb over playing Carl Thompson 32" scale piccolo bass, Weedon-style playing short-scale Alembic bass), Jeff Beck, Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Fred McDowell, Ry Cooder, Keith Richards, Ted Nugent, John McLaughlin (yes that's right) and George Benson.

In November 1976, Weedon made number one, for one week, in the UK Albums Chart with 22 Golden Guitar Greats, a compilation album of guitar solos released on the Warwick label. Leigh Wieland-Boys… I worked in the same building as his agent (Duke Street, London in the 70s) and sometimes covered their reception as a favour. Many thanks to Stratmangler for posting the B B King video - a supremely moving performance and many good close ups of his LH thumb in action, both on the neck (in particular when executing string-pulls, but also most of the rest of the time except when using vibrato) and off (when he moves his entire hand except for his fretting fingers away from the neck to execute vibrato). He worked with leading performers including Stephane Grappelli and George Shearing, and performed with various big bands and orchestras, including those of Ted Heath and Mantovani.

He liked that the format they used in the book was the same as the charts he saw as a studio musician. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

Born in East Ham, London, top guitar star Bert Weedon wanted to play the guitar from his very early childhood. The lessons are quite difficult to follow but this should inspire the student; and if it was that easy you would not read the book. Slightly Foxed brings back forgotten voices through its Slightly Foxed and Plain Foxed Editions, a series of beautifully produced little pocket hardback reissues of classic memoirs, all of them absorbing and highly individual. Pete Fisher… yes I had this too, and found out pretty quickly that a day wasn’t enough to get my little fingers around more than a couple of basic chords…remember him (and a handful of other guitarists) having a spot on TV which was more instructive.

my Mum and Dad bought me a “Top Twenty” guitar for my twelfth birthday and then took me to Blackpool to watch Bert Weedon, (so that I’d know what to do with it) . Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Iain Cobby… Was walking on Brighton Palace pier some years ago when I looked up on a raised part of the cafe deck and there he was with his wife sitting enjoying the sun and a cup of tea.Bert went on to play guitar with artists such as Tommy Stelle, Marty Wilde, Laurie London, Cliff Richard, Adam Faith and Billy Fure to name but a few. However, if you would like to, you can change your settings at any time using the Change cookie settings link in the Special menu. For years, Weedon was the perfect session man, especially for early British rock and roll acts like Billy Fury and Tommy Steele. Tony Bird… Bert had a very dubious record of playing the most notes with a plectrum in one second as recorded by the Guinness book of records!
