I liked all the characters, warmed to them all very quickly and enjoyed the bonds of friendship that formed between them. Karakters worden op slimme wijze geïntroduceerd en er wordt met net genoeg informatie verwezen naar avonturen uit het verleden zodat het verhaal ook goed te volgen is zonder de vorige delen te hebben gelezen.

There's four new kids to keep up with, some with more personality than others, and I'm still not sure who Ozan is. Read an extract from the book here, or downl oad our questions to use for discussion in your own book club. This entry feels quite different to the others (in a good way) because it doesn't take place solely on trains. I particularly liked the inclusion of some new background on Uncle Nat that should make for some interesting plot developments going forward and keep the series fresh. She spent her early career in the music industry running Setanta Records, an independent record label, and managing bands, most notably The Divine Comedy. The mysteries don't stop there, with such sensational intrigue at a creaky house, that has just the right amount of spookiness, with its private train line. It would have been quite useful to have it, as I was struggling to figure out how one branch of the family were related, but that was a minor thing. We were spoilt for choice in this book with sleeper trains, the Metro, personal steam engines on branch lines and even model trains. However, I'm never one to turn down time at a creepy, gothic mansion, so this setting worked as well. A mysterious letter from an old friend asks Hal and Uncle Nat to help investigate a spooky supernatural mystery. As ever there are great titbits of information on trains that add to the story as do the brilliant illustrations by Elisa Paganelli.

This time there’s a curse, disguises, intrigue, a cast of suspicious characters and a windswept mountain castle with its own private train line. From the beginning I was hooked, wanting to solve the mystery and, as usual, I enjoyed the twists and turns along the way.

This time, Hal and Uncle Nat - now well-recognised for their detective endeavours across the world - are invited to Germany to help solve a mystery. I enjoyed the German (which Kindle provides a translation for), and the methods of travel like the Eurostar. Danger at Dead Man's Pass is the 4th-installment of my favorite Middle Grade series, Adventures on Trains. This time, Hal and Uncle Nat find themselves investigating an ancient family curse, a missing will, and a witch who is said to prowl the railway line at Dead Man's Pass.
