Description

I sanded those xmas trees back to bare wood and used boiled linseed oil instead of danish oil, it's still darkened it but not as much as the danish oil. Generally in the UK we found that Danish Oil usually has a low sheen finish, with a drying time of 4-8 hours per coat. We’re incredibly proud of the worldwide range of respected users who believe in and rely upon our furniture restoration services including Harrods, Rolls Royce, Four Seasons Hotels, the NHS, and the Royal Air Force. It can bring out the wood's warm tones, and the amount of darkening depends on the type of oak and the Danish oil used. I don't mind it darkening with time, as you say I guess that's inevitable, but I would have liked it to start off looking "right" to my eyes.

Compliant with Articles In Contact With Food regulations, Danish Oil is also ideal for the treatment of wooden furniture and utensils used in the kitchen and dining areas, where contact with food, spills and exposure to water and other liquids are a frequent hazard to unprotected surfaces. The upcycling and restoration of all things leather, fabric and wood keeps Furniture Clinic at the heart of the circular economy. In the examples below we have applied it to Beech, Oak and Walnut so you can see how the Danish Oil finish looks on light, medium and dark coloured woods. Will pre stain conditioner cut down on the weeping and still allow absorption of the oil into the wood?I really want a natural looking finish that will be hard wearing but won't darken or make the wood yellow. I haven't tried this but she said to place a piece of clean, dry cloth over the area and run an iron, at a very low temperature setting, over the area.

To confuse my little mind even more I asked Liberon which of their products they'd recommend using on BLO to shine it up. Before applying finish, it is important to remove as much of the dust as possible from the work piece. However, over time it can become brittle from exposure to sunlight, moisture, and other environmental factors. Woodworking is your worldwide home for discussion of all things woodworking, carpentry, fine furniture, power tools, hand tools, and just about anything else about making - anything - from trees!

Imagine going to a hairdresser; the barber would never immediately jump into cutting your hair, but they would first brush your hair and ensure it is not all tangled up. Danish Oil will cover about 10-15 square metres per litre per coat depending on porosity, surface texture, and thickness applied. One thing to remember when using any kind of oil is that used rags should never be scrunched up and thrown in the bin. I'm not sure though if there would be any reaction between stain/varnish and oil, you need to speak to the manufacturer. Before applying Danish oil to oak, it's essential to eliminate existing treatments and spray-on polishes.

Furthermore, it doesn't offer UV protection, so the wood could deteriorate over time if it is exposed to sunlight. It is likely that the oil has broken down and let water in, oak left without a finish will naturally turn a silver grey as it ages.Allow to penetrate for 10-20 minutes before wiping off any excess with a lint-free cloth in the direction of the grain. They are comprised of many different combinations of natural and synthetic varnish and resins, mineral oil, tung oil, linseed oil, poppy oil, cotton oil, sunflower oil, white spirit, naptha, driers, anti-skin agents, etc etc! Note: This method allows Danish Oil to penetrate deep into the timber, naturally waterproofing and nourishing when using our Tung Oil based product. It saves a lot of headaches during the finishing and I think it helps me get a serious smooth finish. I have a bandsaw box from oak and bubinga, intended to finish in Liberon Danish oil then maybe for a bit of extra shine, add some Briwax.
