Description

The E500 Unagi Model One feels zippier than any Unagi scooter yet. Its acceleration is spot-on; it can reach 15mph (24 kph) in 4.4 seconds. This makes it the fastest of any 26-lb (11.79 kg) scooter out there. Unagi advertises the Voyager as having a range of between 12 and 25 miles, depending on the weight of the rider, the terrain, and other factors. That range is double the Unagi Classic (7-12 miles), though it should be noted that when the Classic first came out, Unagi said it had a 15-mile range. Physically, the Model One Voyager looks every bit like the Model One Classic, which is all well and good. No one needs to reinvent the wheel – unless, of course, the wheels just aren’t cutting it, which is the case here. It also inherits the Classic’s 7.5-inch solid tires, which to their credit, are puncture-proof due to their nature. This e-scooter comes with both dual electronic brakes and a rear foot brake for your peace of mind. The electronic brakes used in concert with the foot brake are very responsive, allowing the Unagi to come to a complete stop from full speed in just under 17 feet (5.18 m). (The electronic brake by itself takes a little longer, at 25 ft / 7.62 m).

While the Model One won’t offer you much shelter, it should be able to withstand a light shower without any adverse effects. The Model One is equipped with an IP54 water-resistant rating, which means that it has a level of protection from water spray. Fun fact: Unagi’s CEO and founder David Hyman is also the founder of MOG, an early Spotify competitor, which was then acquired by Beats by Dre and later by Apple. Hyman then served as CEO of Beats Music until it was acquired by Apple and became Apple Music. Few scooters can match its performance-to-pound ratio. And no other scooters can match its style points. You don’t need to worry about seeing your environment or being seen while you’re zipping around in the Model One. It’s got a flush-mounted LED front headlight, as well as a rear blinking LED, that are both quite bright and easy to use. Horn For this reason, it’s a good idea to practise using the left braking paddle at low speeds before you advance to riding anywhere near its maximum speed of 15mph. The model we tested is the Unagi Model One E450 Dual Motor. This name signifies its total power, since it has 225W motors in both wheels. There’s also a single-motor 250W model, aptly named the Unagi Model One E250, but this isn’t currently available. For those planning on making longer rides on their scooter, the ride comfort metric will be one to pay attention to as it covers the overall feel of the vehicle with a particular focus on rough surfaces. Simply put, the Model One was one of the least comfortable scooters to ride in the class. This appraisal is largely the result of its sold rubber "never flat" tires. Adding to this effect is the scooter's lightness, which offers little dampening on rough surfaces. All told, the ride on the Model One was rather rough compared to the other scooters in the class. Portability

You need to get to work every day but don't have access to a car (or don't want to pay for one), what options do you have? Hands down, an electric scooter is the number one choice for urban commuting.Unlike bulkier electric scooters, the Unagi Model One Voyager weighs in at a petite 29.6 lb. (13.4 kg). And having carried it around myself, I can tell you that it feels even lighter than that. However, on smooth roads this scooter is actually a dream to ride. Super-smooth, in fact, which is the reason we’d really only recommend it if your usual every day route is on well-paved roads. Otherwise, it won't be an entirely comfortable experience.

Unagi’s model is centred around design, artistry, and engineering. As highly evidenced by the Model One line, Unagi offers advanced features and style. The quality build of this scooter is all the selling point it needs, and all models in the Model One line are crafted using heavy-duty aluminium alloy and the same Japanese carbon fibre used by Elon Musk on SpaceX spacecraft- (the Tesla of electric Scooters?) These high-quality materials contribute to a sturdy frame and overall lightweight element critical for portability. Like most electric scooters, the Model One arrives 90% assembled. All you need to do is unfold it and fit the handlebars. Ready to take on the Tesla of electric scooters? Unagi, the brand behind this year’s it scooter, is the brainchild of former Beats Music CEO David Hyman—and you can completely see the unmistakable dedication to both aesthetics and performance Hyman has previously brought to the table. The October 8th group ride was more than an event; it was a testament to what Unagi represents: community, freedom, and unbridled fun. The streets of NYC bore witness to an electric revolution, punctuated by the joyous beats of an afterparty. It’s also worth noting that while going downhill the motors govern your speed so that the scooter doesn’t ‘run away’ from you, which is a great safety feature for the beginner rider who is still getting to grips with handling the scooter. This also ensures that the brakes can effectively bring the scooter to a standstill when needed.

The Unagi Model One is a fast, powerful and stylish electric scooter

Just above the throttle is a small button that you can use to switch between odometer and trip (single tap) and to change between the speed modes (double tap). With a name stemming from the Japanese word for ‘freshwater eel’, one would expect the sleekest, slimmest, most stylish scooter out there. see latest price Our hands-on experience with the Unagi Model One E-Scooter Design, materials & build quality Crucially, though, the Model One differentiates itself from both models in two significant ways. First, it has a 450W dual-motor arrangement, in comparison to Xiaomi and Ninebot-Segway’s 300W single rear-motor designs. Second, its lightweight materials make the Model One more than 3kg lighter than both its rivals.

Mode two is ideal for daily riding or commuting and has a top speed of 12 mph. Its balanced throttle means you can keep the scooter at a steady pace. Getting caught out in the rain or suffering a couple of splashes is no problem, but don’t attempt to go white water rafting in it – the Model One isn’t a fan of being soaked or submerged. The manufacturer claims that the scooter has a braking distance of 13 feet (396 cm) on a dry road. However, real-world tests show that the dual electronic brakes have a braking distance of 800 cm – quite suitable for electronic brakes. Additionally, when combined with the rear foot brake, the braking distance reduces to 510 cm. I would skip riding this on hilly roads, however. Unagi hasn’t listed its hill grade rating, but it struggled to stay above 7mph on a 15-degree hill during my testing. On the plus side, Unagi slaps on a bigger battery, one with fast-charging capabilities. So you’re getting up to 25 miles of ride time and only need about two hours of charging to get to 80%. The premium lithium-ion batteries maximize performance and are housed in an IP54 waterproof-rating, alongside an intelligent battery management system. Front and rear mudguards also mean that the Model One can be used on wet terrain, but it’s not advisable to go on a ride in torrential downpour…mainly because avoiding puddles that would submerge even just the bottom edge of the hub motors is pretty important. The benefit of airless tyres is that they’re completely puncture-proof. However, you do sacrifice a good degree of comfort over pneumatic tyres. While the Model One electric scooter rides superbly on flat, smooth tarmac, when you’re on paving slabs or any surface that’s less than perfectly smooth, you can feel all the lumps and bumps through your hands and feet. The Model One has a custom-built system for monitoring its own performance, so it won’t overheat and will optimize its function to be efficient and safe. However, there is no associated smartphone app, as there is for some of Unagi’s competitors. While this means that you may not have precise information about your scooter’s performance, it does offer you a simpler user experience. Weight & Load However, you won’t want to submerge the Model One; it’s not an amphibious vehicle. For your dry-land commute and street-bound exploration, though, the Model One will be able to work, rain, or shine. Intelligent Battery Management System In terms of load, the max rider weight is 125 kg (265 lbs) and undoubtedly, the Model One struggles to hit top speeds if the rider is on the upper end of the scale. Folding & Portability A double-press lets you switch between three riding modes, indicated at the bottom of the dashboard, “1” signifying Beginner mode, “2” Intermediate and “3” Advanced mode. Each of these modes has a subsequently higher top-speed starting from 9mph to its max top speed of 15mph.
